Businesses that rent refrigerated storage space for food or produce must be licensed by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
The license covers food storage facilities that keep food at below 45 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 days or more.
Items held must be lot-coded.
Items cannot be held for more than two years without approval for extended storage.
Produce-only facilities pay a reduced license fee.
